During the middle of 2011, I realized I wanted to do a scrapbook for every year and put all of our events together so I could remember everything. I finally finished the 2010 scrapbook. Here they are..(I have already started working on 2011!)

Cesar Chavez
If you do MMH Treasures, then this is for you! Next week we are doing Cesar Chavez and I made a powerpoint for discussion and for vocabulary!
science fair, reading, life….
Here is our science fair project. We did this as a class. It is from Deanna Jump’s Snowmen Unit. The kids had a blast melting their “snow” in their little baggies. I have to admit, it made me want to pull my hair out because it was so.dang.noisy! We learned about how the friction in our hands would make it melt more. Well, we won first place in our grade!!! One of them said the next day, “Mrs. Wright, thank you for helping us win first place!”. Melt my heart!!!
I *think* we might be winning in our reading competition! My kids are reading like their hair is on fire! And this happy teacher is loving it! (not because we’re winning, but because they are EXCITED about reading!!) We might have to do this once a month!
In non teaching related news, my life has been turned upside down or so it feels. There are things happening at school, not with the kids but with adults. You see, some people need to put on their big girl panties. There, I said it. Plus, my sister and I had a huge fight misunderstanding. Today I went to the doctor and I think I am about to start fertility drugs again. My hubby will refer to it as no-ass-itol. I guess I can be quite bitchy moody when I am on them. Oh well, maybe everything will work out.
129 more days until we cruise!!!!!!

a friendly reading competition….
We are trying to promote literacy and improve fluency in first grade. We are beginning a reading competition on Monday. We wanted to have some accountability so we are requiring them to fill out the following form. Once they bring the form back, then they will write their name on a heart cutout which will then go on a larger heart cutout in the hallway with each teachers’ name on them. The class with the most wins! Click HERE to get both copies. I hope we win!!

Snowmen and a box of crayons…
We have been talking all about snowmen this week! We read Snowmen All Year and Snowmen at Night. These are such fun stories. They loved the all year one the best I think.
We did a Venn diagram of the two stories. We have been talking about compare/contrast.
They drew how the snowmen would look at night and all year. They also wrote about each one.
We have been talking about MLK also. I love to do this box of crayons activity. It really talks about diversity.
Whew!! Tomorrow is Friday!!!! TGIF!!!!! I have my nephew’s 3rd birthday party this weekend!!

better day and Jan Brett
We have been reading Jan Brett’s awesome books, The Mitten and The Hat. The kids of course had already read these but were happy to hear them again.
We did this fun little compare/contrast sheet that I found on someone’s blog.
We did this sequencing activity.
We made big Venn diagram to go along with the one we came up with as a class.
Our reading specialists wanted us to start doing more poetry. So we are doing a poem a week in our poetry journals. The kids loved the one we did today about snowballs from Deanna Jump’s Snowman unit. This is really going to help with fluency!
We graphed when we went to sleep on New Year’s Eve. I was really surprised how late some of them stayed up!! (way later than this old lady!!!) Ha!
This is my door. In years past, I would always buy new cutouts for every month. Well, I decided to save that $50 this year and just do one for the whole year. Boring, I know!!! LOL I love this saying. Oh, our school colors are red and black, hence the non matching sign with my name on it. Yeah, it bugs me every time I look at it. You would think I would have changed it by now. Nope.
and guess what came in today?!?! My Erin Condren planner!!!! it was like Christmas morning all over again!!!!!! (My husband thinks I’m weird, getting excited over a planner!)
OH! No tears today from Miss Cries-a-lot!!!!! Yipppeeeeeeee
